The Chateau of Ancy-le-Franc, 89160 Ancy le Franc (map)

A unique Renaissance Palace in the lands of the Dukes of Burgundy. The most extensive Renaissance wall paintings make Ancy-le-Franc the rival of Fontainebleau. The chateau has an unusual unity and harmony that we owe to the the Italian architect Sebastiano Serlio, who was invited to the French court by Francis 1st. Since July 1999, a team of experts has been working on acomprehensive diagnosis of the Chateau before starting the restoration campaigns. That diagnosis will help understand the different stages the Chateau went through in terms of architecture and interior decoration.
