Restorations in the Château of Ancy-le-Franc A huge set of restorations has been going on since 1999 here in this Renaissance palace. Among others:The Honour Court in 2001 and the Pharsale Gallery in 2005. The Pharsale Gallery is decorated with extraordinary mural paintings. These are representing a famous battle that took place in Pharsale in Greece 48 years B.C. These amazing paintings, treated in a 32 m long ochre yellow monochrome, are due to the talent of Niccolo dell’Abate, painter of the painterschool of Fontainebleau, 16th century. This exceptional masterpiece is entirely restored with the financial help from the DRAC in Burgundy and with the collaboration of l’INP, Institut National du Patrimoine and Paris Investir SAS. The North front entrance has, as well, been restored, it took more than two years of work :it needed to be entirely dismantled. A part was restored in Avignon, a part has been replaced after a prodigious work of sculpturing. On the court side, the restoration of this honour entrance is still ongoing. In July 2006 a restoration workshop took place in the Room of Diana, situated in the North East pavilion on the ground floor. It was a workshop with students and teachers from l’INP, Institut National du Patrimoine. This room needs a large set of restoration before it can be available for visitors. There is a beautiful article about this workshop in the Bourgogne Magazine from September 2006. A lot of other projects are in progress... |
